Right Click CPS Test: How Fast Is Your Right Click?
Last updated: October 2026
A right click CPS test measures how many times you can click the right mouse button in one second. Click the right button as fast as you can for a set time, and the test divides your right clicks by the seconds. Left clicks do not count, and the pop-up menu is blocked so nothing gets in your way.
- Right click only
- Menu blocked
- 1 to 100 seconds
- Mouse or trackpad
What Is a Right Click CPS Test?
A right click CPS test is a click speed test that only counts the right mouse button. It works like a normal CPS test for left clicks, but for your other button.
The formula is the same:
Right click CPS = Right clicks ÷ Seconds
So 30 right clicks in 5 seconds is 6.0 CPS, and 60 right clicks in 10 seconds is also 6.0 CPS.
A standard click test will not give you this number. Most of them count only the left button, and right-clicking on a normal web page opens the browser’s menu and breaks your run. This test solves both problems.
How the Test Counts Right Clicks
The test reads which mouse button you pressed and counts only the secondary button. Browsers label each mouse press with a button number, and per MDN’s MouseEvent.button reference, the value 2 means the secondary button, usually the right one.
That leads to a few details worth knowing:
- Left clicks are ignored. They show up in a small “ignored” counter so you can see if your fingers are slipping onto the wrong button.
- The pop-up menu is blocked only inside the click pad. The rest of the page works normally.
- Left-handed mice count the swapped button. If you set your mouse to left-handed mode, the button your computer treats as “secondary” is the physical left one. The test follows your settings.
- Trackpads work with a two-finger click or your trackpad’s right-click corner, if it is set up as a secondary click.
How to Take the Right Click CPS Test
The test takes seconds and needs only a mouse or trackpad with a right-click option.
- Pick a duration. Start with 5 seconds for a fair score.
- Place your cursor on the click pad. Keep it there for the whole run.
- Right-click to start. The timer begins on your first right click.
- Keep right-clicking until time runs out. Only the right button counts.
- Check your result. You will see your average CPS, your fastest second and a bar for each second.
For a fair comparison over time, use the same mouse, the same grip and the same duration on every run.
What Is a Good Right Click CPS?
A good right click CPS is anything over 6 on a 5-second test. Most people score a little lower on the right button than on the left, so judge your right score against your own left score, not someone else’s.
| Right click CPS (5 to 10 s) | Level | What it usually means |
|---|---|---|
| Under 4 | Starting out | Stiff middle finger or a heavy right button |
| 4 to 5.9 | Normal | Typical untrained right click |
| 6 to 7.9 | Good | Right click is close to most people’s left |
| 8 to 9.9 | Fast | Trained right click or a light switch |
| 10+ | Very fast | Usually jitter or butterfly clicking on the right button |
Your best scores come from 5 or 10 second tests. A 1-second test swings too much, since one extra click adds a full 1.0 CPS.
Why Right Click Is Usually Slower Than Left Click
Right click is usually slower because most people press it with the middle finger, which gets far less practice than the index finger on the left button. Some mice also have a slightly firmer right switch.
The Left vs Right tab shows your exact gap. It runs 5 seconds of left clicks, then 5 seconds of right clicks. If you score 40 left clicks and 30 right clicks, that is 8.0 CPS against 6.0 CPS, so your right click is 75% of your left, or 25% slower.
How to read your gap:
- Right at 90% or more of left. Your hands are balanced.
- Right at 70 to 90%. Normal for most people. Practice closes it quickly.
- Right under 70%. Your middle finger is the bottleneck, or the right switch may be stiff or worn.
Where Right Click Speed Matters
Right click speed matters most in games that put a key action on the right button. In other tasks, clean single right clicks matter more than speed.
- Minecraft. In Java Edition, the right button is “Use Item/Place Block” by default, according to the Minecraft Wiki controls page. Fast, steady right clicks help when placing blocks quickly, such as bridging across a gap.
- Minecraft 1.8-style PvP. Players who block-hit combine left-click attacks with quick right clicks, so both buttons need speed and timing.
- Shooters. Right click usually aims down sights. Here a fast, clean press matters more than high CPS.
- Clicker and idle games. Some use the right button for a second action, so a faster right click adds up.
How to Click the Right Button Faster
The fastest gains come from finger choice and grip, not from pressing harder. Try these one at a time and retest after each change.
- Rest your middle finger on the button. Lifting off between clicks wastes time.
- Use short, light presses from the knuckle, not the whole hand.
- Try your index finger for testing. Some people move their index finger to the right button for speed tests. It can raise your score, though it is not practical in games where you also need left click.
- Learn jitter or butterfly clicking. The same methods used on the left button work on the right. Our main CPS test guide explains how each method works.
- Warm up first. Two easy runs before your scored run usually help.
- Stop if it hurts. Pain, tingling or numbness in your hand or wrist means it is time to rest. Fast clicking is repetitive, so take breaks and see a doctor if symptoms stay.
Is Your Right Mouse Button Wearing Out?
A worn right switch can send two clicks for one press, or miss presses entirely. The Button Check tab helps you spot both before they cause problems in games or everyday use.
Run these quick checks:
- Slow click test. Right-click 10 times slowly. The R counter should read exactly 10.
- Double-click check. Watch for the “possible double click” flag. Two right clicks under 20 ms apart are almost certainly the switch bouncing, not your finger.
- Missed press check. If a firm press sometimes adds nothing, the switch may be failing.
- Wrong button check. If the L or M counter moves when you only press right, check your mouse software for remapped buttons.
| What you see | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| One press counts twice | Worn or bouncing switch | Try your mouse software’s debounce setting if it has one; replace the switch or mouse if it continues |
| Some presses missing | Failing switch or weak wireless signal | Charge or plug in the mouse; test with a wired one |
| Right press counts as left | Button remapping or left-handed mode | Check mouse and system button settings |
| Score jumps suddenly | Double clicking from the switch | Run the Button Check before trusting the score |
Summary
- A right click CPS test counts only the right mouse button and blocks the browser menu while you click.
- Right click CPS = right clicks ÷ seconds. Use 5 or 10 seconds for a fair score.
- Most people are slower on the right button because they use the middle finger.
- Use the Left vs Right tab to see your exact gap, and Button Check to spot a worn switch.
Next step: run the Left vs Right test once, note your percentage, and retest after a week of short practice.
Compare left and rightFrequently Asked Questions
Do left clicks count in the right click CPS test?
No. Only the right mouse button counts toward your score. Left and middle clicks are shown in a separate “ignored” counter, so you can see if your finger slips onto the wrong button. This keeps the result fair and makes sure the score reflects your right-click speed only.
Why doesn’t the right-click menu appear during the test?
The test blocks the browser’s right-click menu only inside the click area. Without that, the menu would pop up on the first click and stop the test. Everywhere else on the page, right click works normally, so you can still open menus outside the test area.
Can I take a right click CPS test on a laptop trackpad?
Yes, if your trackpad has a right-click option. A two-finger click or the right-click corner usually registers as a right click. Trackpad scores are often lower than mouse scores because the motion is different, so compare trackpad results with other trackpad results only.
Can I take a right click test on my phone?
Phones and tablets do not have a right mouse button, so a true right click test does not work on touchscreens. A long press usually opens a menu instead of acting as a fast right click. For mobile speed, use a regular tap speed test instead.
Does a gaming mouse improve right click CPS?
It can help a little. A light, short-travel right button is easier to press quickly, and some gaming mice let you adjust debounce or button settings. Technique still matters more than the mouse. A worn switch on any mouse can also inflate your score with accidental double clicks.
Is right click CPS useful for Minecraft bridging?
Yes, to a point. Bridging places blocks with the right button, so faster and steadier right clicks help you place blocks in rhythm. Timing, movement and crouching skill matter just as much. Practice on a server that allows your method, since some servers have rules about clicking techniques.
